Scouts are a specialized designation of military craft usually small in size and very stealthy in design. Usually no larger than 15 meters in size, and many times much smaller craft if they are either remotely controlled or some sort of sentient drone craft or anything not piloted by a human being.

Scout craft are characteristically equipped with sensitive sensor and communications equipment and either light or no armaments whatsoever. Relying primarily upon their stealthy design and/or speed to prevent their discovery, destruction, or capture. Most will possess defensive countermeasures to aid in their survivability within hostile environments. Almost always equipped with interstellar capable drive systems if available, and are nearly self-sufficient for long-endurance missions, capable of operating far beyond the range of most other ship classifications. The only major limiting factors tend to be fuel in those cases where relevant to the operation of the ships propulsion systems and supplies in relation to any organic pilots operators.
