Starship Design Project:Outpost

Outposts are constructs within the 300 meters to 600 meters in diameter range.

Not usually meant to be mobile, these miniature Stations, are usually placed in strategic positions for specialized purposes where either the cost and/or the benefits of building a full fledged station are not desirable or beneficial. Used for everything from refueling, resupply, refining, area surveillance, defense, etc... These platforms although capable of being moved under their own power, generally aren't used as normal ships in this manner, and thusly rarely have interstellar transversal capabilities and even very limited interplanetary translational capacity. Armament is a matter of design preference where some may be completely unarmed, whereas others might be extensively outfitted with armaments that most ships could not normally field. Often there are hangar bays and docking ports for servicing and housing smaller vessels and utility craft as deemed necessary for the designed function of the outpost.
